Earth Day : give earth a break
Earth : the only thing we have and yet we neglect it. Ignore it. Like a bad lover.
We know we need our sweetheart but we pretend we are more important than her/him. But we dont want to the phrase ' you don't know what you got till its gone' happen to our earth.
My memory brings me to 3 years ago, celebrating Earth Day ,while I was still an activist for Walhi we threw a demonstration -well it was actually a rally action- at the HI roundabout Jakarta. Giving away brochure, oration and art act. I forgot what the theme was.
The struggle for education the community to be more concern for the environment is never easy. Although the trend is very relieving nowadays. Many goverments realising the importance of environment policies and they join conference or international summits dicussing environmental matters. Many environmental NGO gain trust from community, many youngster and students aware and take direct part in conservation, manufacturings are beginning to make environmental friendly products and register their product to eco label board.
Now the fight still continues. We may never win the battle but we will the war. The 'enemy' is not only ignorant large coorporations and selfish goverments. The greater enemy is ourself. What do we do to give earth a little breathing everyday.

Way before those, in 1970 an environmentalist US Senator Gaylord Nelson founded Earth Day and proposed a massive protest in US. The coordinator was Denis Hayes whom 20 years later organized another protest this time had a global effect which spured the UN Earth Summit in Rio 1992.
Now the fight still continues. We may never win the battle but we will the war. The 'enemy' is not only ignorant large coorporations and selfish goverments. The greater enemy is ourself. What do we do to give earth a little breathing everyday.
